Personal statement

Dr. Jiancheng Weng has been a professor in the College of Metropolitan Transportation (CMT) of Beijing University of Technology since 2007, and a visiting scholar in the field of Transportation Engineering at the University of Minnesota in September 2010 to January 2011. He was also the deputy director of the International Office of the university during 2017-2021. He was selected as a member of “Beijing Nova” Talent Program by Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission as well as the “Talent Youth” Program by Beijing University of Technology. He graduated in July 2007 with a Ph.D in Transportation Engineering from Beijing University of Technology in China. His research areas include transportation big data processing and modeling, multi-mode traffic travel behavior model & spatial-temporal distribution, traffic system evaluation and monitoring model. He has been in charge of 30 projects include the projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and the major Special Program of National Science and technology supported from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, special Western Major Program of the Ministry of transport, and projects that focus on traffic system evaluation and capacity of urban road networks as part of the “National 11th Five-Year” plan supported by The Ministry of Science and Technology. He also served as the chief project researcher while working on several significant Science and Technology projects on the topics of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), traffic information and big data, sponsored by various Commissions of the Beijing government. Much important research experience and academic results have been achieved in the field of public transportation monitoring model, the multi-source traffic data processing and fusion method, traffic flow forecasting, and transportation system evaluation. Prof. Weng has a more than ten-year service experience to provide technique support on traffic policy and urban traffic operation evaluation, and big data analysis, and decision-making for the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport (BMCT).

Prof. Weng has published three books and over 120 journal articles or conference papers, 85 of them were included in SCI & EI Indexes. He was authorized 15 Chinese national invention patents and 13 software patents, and received 15 prizes of science and technology award respectively granted by the Beijing municipal government, the Chinese highway society science and Technology, and ITS China. He is a Membership of the China Intelligent Transportation System (ITS China), and Beijing Traffic Engineering Association, the member of Youth Science and Technology Committee of China Transportation Association, also served as one of the chief editors and a member of the Executive and Organization Committee of the 10th International Chinese Conference of Transportation Professionals (ICCTP 2010) which was successfully held in Beijing in August 2010. He is also the senior reviewer of several international conferences and academic journals.
